Major thanks are, once again, due to Steve Paine, a true magician whose contribution has been immense!

And to Lucy, who has contributed so much more than her flute playing to this album.  Also, to Debbie, Tali, Kurt, Robert and Tracey for their talent and invaluable contributions. To MJ Croft for cover art inspiration.  And to Alice Haynes for dog sitting and the lovely people at the Kings Arms Hotel, Melrose for giving me the peace and space to pull this all together.  And finally, to the girl in the graveyard and, more generally, all those who have gone before, for sharing their stories.

Inspiration for “Widdershins” has been drawn from my own experiences and research, numerous conversations with Steve Paine and Lucy Speller, the works of Carl Gustav Jung, “Hecate: Goddess of Liminal Space” by Wyn Abbot, “Fairies: A Dangerous History” by Richard Sugg, and the books of Robert Macfarlane, amongst many others.

Bedlam is dedicated to the memory of George Speller, musician extraordinaire, and to the original members of the Flag Crackers of Craven Welsh Border Morris who danced me down the rabbit hole to the other side - where I became the Green Man for a while!

“This is the continuation of the journey that started with the album ‘Child of the Hollow Way’ and which has not yet come to an end.  Some of the narrative is slightly more dense and opaque than that contained in its predecessor but all the elements are still there on close inspection.  The album title “Widdershins” is important as, this time, I’ve been exploring things from a different perspective – often looking the other way, backwards, over my shoulder or out of the corner of my eye – which has required me to pass through some quite challenging liminal spaces on occasions.  The past bends and shifts like a river or a hollow way and it often takes significant energy and concentration to stay on course and not lose sight of the way back!  Or, indeed, be waylaid by those who lurk ‘in the leaves that guard the track’. Was that really you I saw, Jack?”
